Coming Soon: SR to Release E-mail Exchanges ... (Not so fast...)

Sen. Larry Craig a disservice by posting unsubstantiated allegations by gay activist Mike Rogers that Craig is gay. Rogers has never backed up the claims he made on a national radio program, and the story died. You can read the Poynter post here.

*A Berry Picker re: HBO's use of the term KCSO for the sheriff's office: It hasnt been KCSO since Pierce Clegg was in office. Kootenai County Sheriffs Department. KCSD. (DFO: Oops ... How about KCPC: Kootenai County Porn Central?)

*Spectator re: Steve Smith's confirmation of the expense to pursue the Douglas/Kalani email trail: That's exactly why the CDA Press will never break stories like these. They will never invest in giving their reporters the support and resources to do investigative stories. But they'll pick yours up on the AP, and you can take that to the bank.

King tribute includes announcement of grant for memorial

A moving choir in colorful robes, a spellbinding sermon and encouraging words lifted hundreds of onlookers to their feet over and over during today's tribute honoring the birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Allentown's St. James AME Zion Church.

This year's event was made all the more special when it was announced that the state has given a $400,000 grant toward building a memorial in Allentown honoring King and his wife, Coretta Scott King.

"For the past fifteen years, I have had a dream of honoring the memory of Dr. King in a special way by having a Dr. King monument here in Allentown," said Harry Roberts, founder and president of the effort, during Monday's celebration. "My dream is finally beginning to come true."

Health risks hinge on where your fat's at

At 6 feet 2 inches and 474 pounds, Scott Sanderson, 41, was visibly overweight and experiencing sleep difficulties and knee pain when he sought his doctor's help in February.

But it was the excess weight less visible to the untrained eye that might have been hurting the Phoenix-area man more.

"I found out I was borderline diabetic," he says. "I'm Native American, and diabetes is an epidemic on our reservation. I knew I needed to start paying attention to my health."

The belly fat contributing to his extra pounds, especially the visceral fat that accumulates around the organs inside the belly, has been associated with increased risk of diabetes, heart disease and other conditions.

"People with an apple shape - extra weight in the middle and upper body - are much more likely than people with a pear shape to have insulin resistance and the infamous metabolic syndrome," says Chandler, Ariz., physician Scott Rigden, who is Sanderson's doctor.
