CaringBridge: A connection for support, recovery
When Janet Marshall was sick last year and taking medication that kept her awake at night, she was glad to turn to her computer for support. Marshall, a Lafayette mother of four, was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in December 2006. She spent most of the next year going through intensive treatment for the disease, which is incurable in Marshall because it had already spread to her lymph nodes by the time she was diagnosed. "With the medicine I was on, you're either dead tired or you can't sleep. So in the middle of the night, when you don't want to bother anyone, you have that support," she said of CaringBridge, a free, nonprofit Internet service that helps patients keep their friends and relatives up-to-speed on their treatment. St. Elizabeth Regional Health recently announced a partnership that provides all its patients a free, private and personalized Web site with CaringBridge.
